Information about the Addams Family

Thames Music & Drama is thrilled that you are interested in joining the Addams Family team! This is a teen and kids musical production with performers ages 8 to 18. 

The Addams Family Musical is a reimagining of the 1964 Addams Family tv show (and the many movies, cartoons and tv series that followed) with vibes from the Netflix series “Wednesday.” Our Addams family is just as kookie, creepy, and weird as ever, and will bring our audience the powers of love and the beauty in being a misfit!

Available Performer Roles

Wednesday Addams

Wednesday Addams is the confident, spicy, and dark sweetheart and eldest child of the Addams Family.  Wednesday knows exactly who she is as an Addams, but she is discovering new things about herself as she falls in love for the first time. 

Wednesday has a large speaking and singing role, and sometimes holds hands with and hugs other characters. Wednesday will most likely be played by a female. Wednesday will need to be a confident actor and singer. 

Pugsley Addams

Pugsley Addams is the youngest of the Addams family and still very much a little kid.  Pugsley is sneaky, petty, and has to come to grips with his sister growing up.

Pugsley has a medium speaking and singing role, dances, and is “tortured.” Pugsley will most likely be played by a male.

Uncle/Auntie Fester

Fester is a weird and loveable uncle or auntie who showers their family members with love while scheming about how to improve their lives.  Fester is unlike anyone else in this show or anyone else in the world. He is out of his mind in a sweet and down-to-earth kind of way. He is also a bit funny.

Fester has a large speaking and singing role, and dances.  She/he will need to have a big, loveable stage presence, and be a confident actor.

Morticia Addams

Morticia is an elegant, classy, beautiful, and ghastly lady.  She is the matriarch of her family (which means that she is absolutely in charge) and her authority is unquestioned. In a way, she is a good and loving queen and her family members are her subjects.  She loves and takes care of them unwaveringly. She rarely allows herself to be vulnerable. 

Morticia has a large speaking and singing role, dances, and sometimes holds hands with and hugs other characters. Morticia will most likely be played by a female. Morticia will need to be a confident actor and singer. 

Gomez Addams

Gomez Addams is a doting husband and father who holds his family together with a softness and kindness that only the sweetest possible dad could have.  Don’t get us wrong, Gomez is kookie and weird with an affinity for all things death, swordfighting and torture!

Gomez has a large speaking and singing role, dances, and sometimes holds hands with and hugs other characters. Gomez may be played by any gender. Gomez will need to be a confident actor and singer. 

Grandma

Our grandma is a classy, poised nan who doesn’t put up with any foolishness.  We are modeling her after the grandma in the Wednesday television series. Although she is every bit Addams, she is elegant, poised, and constantly gathering items for her personal potion stash.

Grandma has a medium speaking part, and dances and sings with the cast. Grandma (or grandpa) may be played by either a male or female.

Lucas Beineke

The Beineke family is totally “normal,” whatever normal is. Lucas has fallen in love with Wednesday and the two are planning to marry.  Lucas is witty, energetic, smart and has to contend with balancing expectations of his father, Mal, and his new love, Wednesday.

Lucas has a large speaking and singing role, dances, and sometimes holds hands with and hugs other characters. Lucas may be played by any gender. Lucas will need to be a confident actor and singer. 

Mal

Mal is a work-obsessed builder and father of Lucas and the head of the Beineke family.  Mal is repulsed by everything the Addams represents and is dismissive of his wife, Alice.  Mal has a large character arc in this story when he rediscovers his love for his wife and his fun-loving nature.

Mal has a medium speaking and singing role, does some awkward dancing, and sometimes holds hands with and hugs other characters. Mal will need to be a strong singer. 

Alice

Alice is the heart and soul of the Beineke family. She is colourful, cheerful, and light-hearted.  Alice looks very different from the Addams, but inwardly, she is a beautiful representation of the same love, acceptance, and fun that the Addams Family represents.  

Alice has a medium speaking and singing role and plays a vital part in moving the storyline.  Alice will need to be a strong actor and singer.  Alice dances and sometimes holds hands with and hugs other characters.

Ancestors

The Addams’s many deceased ancestors play a vital part of this story as they sing, dance, have speaking and singing solos, and usher characters through the storyline. Our ancestors will have backstories as varied as the rest of the family and should be ready to work hard and project the joy of being an Addams. 

Ancestors will have small speaking and solo singing roles, but large dancing and singing parts throughout the show. If you would like to audition as an ancestor, but not have any solos you need only attend the Performance Workshop, but you do not need to audition further. 

The Moon, Stars and Clouds

The Moon, Stars and Clouds in our story are graceful ballet dancers.  The Moon, Stars, and Clouds may be played by any gender and will need to have experience dancing ballet.

Actors, dancers, singers, techies, and make-up artists, experienced and newbies needed.  We will have an all youth cast (ages 8 to 18ish).  Adults and teens/older kids who want to help behind-the-scenes can use this form as well.

All performers should attend the Performance Workshop on 21 June 2026 and those who would like to audition for speaking roles will sign up for an audition timeslot (link to follow).  The Performance Workshop will be a chance for our youth performers to get to know each other and have a go at learning the choreography, songs, and do a bit of acting.  No pressure - this is not an audition and the goal is that everyone who comes to the Performance Workshop will be in the show. Please come ready to move around with afternoon tea and a water bottle!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. I can’t attend the performance workshop, can I still audition?

Yes, sign up for the performance workshop and note that you are unable to attend.

2. What if I want to be on stage, but I don’t want a speaking or solo role?

We would love to have you! Please sign up for and attend the performance workshop - no need to audition.

3.What if I want to help behind-the-scenes?

Excellent! Please sign up for and attend the performance workshop, indicating that you would like to help behind-the-scenes. This way, you can start to get to know our show and the other members of the cast.  We will assign you to a group leader for behind-the-scenes work!

4. What if I just generally love theatre and I’m not sure how I want to be involved?

We would love to have you! Please sign up for and attend the performance workshop so you can figure out how you will feel most comfortable. Then you can choose to be an ancestor without a solo part, audition for a solo/speaking part, or be part of the backstage crew.

5.What if I audition and I don’t get chosen for a role?

If you audition and you don’t get the role you auditioned for, we will most likely choose another role that we think will work well for you.

6. What if I’m too young or too old as of the day of the show?

If you are almost 8 years old or turned 19 after 1 June 2026, can manage yourself well, and willing to put your best foot forward, we are happy to have you!

7. What if I can’t attend some of the rehearsals or performances?

PLEASE any scheduling conflicts for the rehearsal and performance schedules when you sign up for your audition slot.

8. What if I freeze up during my audition? 

We freeze up sometimes, too!  Don’t worry, just plow ahead the best you can. We’re all here to give musical theatre a go.  The worst case scenario would be that you don’t get a solo speaking/singing part, but we have lots of roles that don’t have to perform alone.
